MnLegalDiversity.org: From Conception to Reality

MnLegalDiversity.org came into existence through an innovative collaboration at the Minnesota Minority Bar Summit.

The Summit consists of minority bar associations, local law schools, and Minnesota state & county bar associations. The Summit sought to create a forum where prospective and current law students and legal practitioners could learn about the opportunities offered in Minnesota.

To bring Minnesota Legal Diversity from conception to reality, financial support was provided by local area law schools, law firms, corporations and the public sector. Representatives from the Minority Bar Summit organizations were granted the authority to create and launch the website.

In 2007, the Diversity Committee of the Minnesota State Bar Association was approached and offered the responsibility of on-going administration of the website, which it accepted. Since that time, the Diversity Committee worked to promote, update and maintain the website.

Striving for legal diversity

“From a gay and lesbian perspective, Minnesota is progressive. The vast majority of my experience has been very positive. In my office and in my work with other state agencies and at the Legislature [lobbying for human rights], I’m confident that my ideas succeed or fail on their own merit.”
